The first week of 2018 is officially in the books! So far I have kept my resolution of being on time to things! Jonny has finally gotten over his virus, so in a way it feels like the new year is just now starting!
I have realized that keeping my goals is not about tips or tricks, it’s simply about caring enough and wanting to change enough to follow through. I have been late to things pretty much my entire life – and I was sick of it. I was sick of being unreliable, stressed, panicked, and rushed. So I finally said ENOUGH. I had the desire to change, then I added things that I thought would help me to be successful. Those include things like:
1. Using a daily planner that has space for me to write out to-dos, my schedule, something I am grateful for, and notes. I love it because I look forward to writing in it everyday, and that helps me to be mindful of my time and efforts. The one I use and love: HERE.
2. I go to sleep earlier. Some days are still better than others, but I was going to bed at midnight every night last year (which is NOT realistic if you work full time). Now around 9 or 9:30 we call it quits. We are able to do this because we get up early, get our work done on time, and actually have an evening together. So when 9:30 comes we don’t feel like we just sat down to relax, we feel ready for bed. (IT’S AMAZING!)
3. I meal plan for the week. I used to do this all the time and I have a feeling this will be the hardest thing for me to keep up with because life gets busy and I just don’t think about it until the last minute. This step in my routine has been invaluable. It allows me to relax after work rather than scrambling to throw together a meal with whatever we have. So on Sunday evenings I sit down with my recipes and a grocery list and write it out for each day. Meanwhile, I jot down things that I will need to get at the store to make the recipes I choose.
4. Last but not least is, being a part of a community that will encourage me in my goals and provide even more structure to my week. Jonny and I meet with our church on Sundays and our small group on Tuesdays. They pray for me and encourage me because they know being on time is something I’m working on. But most of all, I love walking into church or small group 5-10 minutes early and saying – I did it! I’m here on time and I can enjoy people’s company and relax.
I hope you all are having a wonderful start to the new year, and I hope that your goals are going well. If they aren’t, consider some simple things that you can implement into your routine that might help! Leave a comment with how you are sticking to your resolution (it may help another reader – you never know!)
My outfit below also gives me all the good vibes and motivates me to get things done! If you’re like me, then what you’re wearing affects how you feel the rest of the day. If I take the time to look nice or put something on that makes me feel confident, then I am much more likely to be productive that day. Whereas, when I wear my PJs all day, I will likely watch TV and nap haha (not that thats a bad thing sometimes).
